Year 1
August 2022- June 2023
- Quarterly: Professional coaching sessions
- One on one coaching sessions with a professional academic surgical coach to help guide and direct young faculty in leadership and management skills
- Monthly: AAS and SUS Faculty mentoring sessions
- Individual mentoring session with a leader from the AAS or SUS
- Discussion of career development
- Guidance on getting involved and becoming active in surgical societies
- Appointment to a national committee on the AAS
- Individual mentoring session with a leader from the AAS or SUS
- Twice Annually: Meet with home institutional Department Chair
- One on one session with the Department Chair
- Discussion of career development plan
- Discussion of path to leadership plan
- One on one meeting with the institutional Promotion and Tenure officer
- Preparing for Promotion Seminar
- Attend 3-web based seminars on the promotion process to learn about tips, tricks, and the pitfalls of getting promoted
- Serve on an AAS Committee
- Self-nominate for committee participation – Nominations open August, October, and December
- October 15, 2022: Association for Academic Surgery Fall Courses – Early Career Development Course in San Diego, CA
- Mandatory attendance at the annual AAS Fall Courses – Early Career Development Course
- Complimentary registration provided by the AAS
- Travel and accommodations covered by grantee institution
- Attend the AAS Executive Council meeting
- Network and meet AAS officers and leaders
- Mandatory attendance at the annual AAS Fall Courses – Early Career Development Course
- November 2022: Virtual check-in with JUMPSTART Committee Leads
- February 7-9, 2023: Attend Academic Surgical Congress in Houston, TX
- Complimentary registration provided by the AAS and the SUS
- Travel and accommodations covered by $2250 stipend
- Mentorship meeting with Chairs of Surgery (AAS and SUS Leaders)
- April/May 2023: Virtual check-in after the Academic Surgical Congress with JUMPSTART Committee Leads
- April 2-5, 2023: American College of Surgeons Leadership and Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC
- Optional attendance at the annual ACS Leadership and Advocacy Summit (Grantee institution supported travel)
- Network and meet with leaders from the ACS
Within the 2 -year program, participants attend and additional meeting in a specialty or affinity group of choice. Grantee will work with JUMPSTART committee regarding travel support. Participant will:
- Attend the meeting
- Network with organization’s leaders and officers
- Attend sessions on professional development / leadership
Year 2
August 2023- June 2024
- Leadership Capstone Course
- Preparation for final deliverable – promotions packet
- February 2024: Society of University Surgeons Mid-Career Course
- Attend the SUS Mid-career course
- Complimentary registration provided by the SUS
- Network and meet with SUS Officers and Leaders
- Attend the SUS Executive Council
- Attend the SUS Mid-career course
- February 2024: Attend Academic Surgical Congress location TBD
- Complimentary registration provided by the AAS and the SUS
- Travel and accommodations covered by $2250 stipend
- Mentorship meeting with Chairs of Surgery (AAS and SUS Leaders)

Final deliverable:
- One page write up that outlines future plans
- Write promotions packet
- Capstone Presentation/Graduation (Virtual one on one)
